EAST COAST
On the evening of June 7, 2000 we loaded my bike and gear in my daughters cars.
14 hours later we arrived at the Piggley Wiggley super market parking lot in
Darien, Ga. where my bike was unloaded and my ride north began.
At 8:45 A.M. my ride began Rt.17 north
Following is daily mileage and average speeds of this trip.
Day 1: rode 41.9 miles avg. speed 13.4 mph finished at Richmond Hill, Ga
Day 2: Richmond Hill to Beaufort S.C. 77.3 miles 12.8 mph
Day 3: Beaufort to Charleston S.C. 61.1 miles 11.5 mph
Day 4: Charleston to Georgetown S.C. 66.2 miles 12.3 mph
Day 5: Georgetown to North Carolina Border 56.2 miles 13.1 mph
Day 6: Border to Surf City N.C. 88 miles 14.2 mph
Day 7: Surf City to Cedar Island N.C. 108.4miles 13.4 mph; first flat tire (bike)
Day 8: Cedar Island ferry to Ocracoke 2 hrs. 40 min. ride 14 miles to ferry to Hatteras. 40 min. to cross, ride to Rodanthe. 49.2 miles 13.5 mph. Flat tire (B.O.B trailer)
Day 9: Rodanthe N.C. to Mamie N.C. 56.3 miles 11.8 mph (headwind last 25 miles)
Day 10: Mamie to Virginia Beach Va. 56.7 miles 12.3 mph (40 min. ferry ride and 20 miles of nothing to V.B.)
Day 11: Virginia Beach to Pokemoke City Md. 89.5 miles 14.6 mph (10 min. wait for a ride over the Chesapeake Bay Bridge Tunnel)
Day 12: Pokemoke City to Easton Md. 77.2 miles 12.5 mph (felt poorly today, 2nd B.O.B. flat)
Day 13: Easton to Gaithersburg Md. 82 miles 11.4 mph (1 hr.40 min. to get ride over the Bay Bridge on 50. Lots of city riding to get around D.C. longest day)
Day 14: Gaithersburg to Brunswick Md. 32.3 miles 9.5 mph (17 miles on the MUDDY C&O Canal)
Total Miles ridden 943
73 hours and 5 min. pedal time
And no I am not as nuts as everyone asked before I left
I had a good time and can't wait to do it again
