DAY 11
A short 30 mile ride today to Lowell, easy flat to down ride all the way. Kooskia (coo-sky-a) is 8 miles from Kamiah and has services, you have to cross the bridge to get to town and looks like you can loop back to 12 without back tracking. From Kooskia it is 16 miles to Syringa, which has about 4 houses and a coke machine that works.Lowell has 2 options for overnight, one a resort? campground with motel across the river,or a motel along 12,both offer dining.I opted for the Wilderness Inn along route 12, Hot and Cold running Shower, each at it's own choosing of course and 1 channel on the T.V. ( hunting and fishing channel).Today was another very pretty day of riding along the river.
Aug 9 & 10
DAY 12 & 13
Two day ride from Lowell up to Lolo pass and into Montana. From Lowell you go up the Lochsa (lock-saw) River. The road up to Powell Camp Ground is an easy steady grade for the 66 miles to Powell, where there is small store and lodge with dining, there is also a National Forest Campground there. There are several camping spots along the Lowell to Powell strech they are located 7, 26, 51,62,and 63 miles from Lowell some have water availible. This is a very pretty ride once again. I also had another flat,THORN, must have picked it up yesterday while picking berries (Doug,I have moved from dumpsters to living off the land). Spent the night at Powell. Today the road out of Powell was much like yesterday for 8 milesand then you come to the hard part of the day 5 miles up to Lolo Pass 4 of which are steep. There is a vistor center at the pass and water and the lady at the info desk told me not to worry cause it is all down hill to Montana from there, only problem with that is the border is about 200 feet from the visitor center. But low and behold there is more down hill then that 200 feet so on to
MONTANA.........
